Bali Accommodation – Spoiled for choice

Bali Accommodation – Spoiled for choice

First time to Bali?

You’ve probably already done your research and you know what part of the Island you want to stay at and visit.

Your next decision will be probably deciding what is the right accommodation choice for your travel group?

Your accommodation choices in Bali are huge.

Prices range from as little as $10 a night for a budget room in a homestay, up to the high $000’s for a luxury cliff top, ocean view, Villa.

Your decision will be dependent on:

  • your budget,
  • the length of your stay,
  • the size of your group,
  • the particular needs of your group, and
  • any special requirements

Backpackers

Dormitory Rooms

There have been more and more of the traditional backpackers accommodation pop up in the last few years.  Found in the busier parts of Bali.

Losman is Balinese for Homestay.

This was one of the first styles of accommodation in the early days of tourism.  You will be staying within a family compound or home, so it’s a great way to engage with a Balinese family.

Priced from $10 to $40 per day, these basic rooms mostly have Wi-Fi, but they generally don’t have a swimming pool. Rooms have ceiling fans, some with air-conditioning and cold showers.

Homestay’s are perfect for you if you’re travelling on a budget and you want a secure base.

Couples or singles

Apartments.

Thinking of staying in the one place for a few weeks and want the flexibility to do some cooking yourself?

Some studio or with one or two bedrooms with separate kitchens and living space, featuring a shared pool. Wi-Fi and air con is standard.

There are more and more of these now to meet the demand of travellers who stay in one place for a few weeks at a time or who want the flexibility to do some cooking.

Guest house or hotel.

Perhaps you’d like a little spoiling during your stay, with daily housekeeping and breakfast. A step up from the homestay with air-conditioned rooms with reception staff, swimming pool and restaurant.

Prices here range vastly from $30 to $200.  There are literally hundreds of these in Bali so the key here is to check the age of the property.

The older ones unless well maintained can be tired, however the upside can be lovely mature gardens and bigger rooms.

The brand-new ones could have opening special deals!  The size can range from a boutique 10 rooms to 600 + rooms. Be sure to read the reviews.

Families on a budget

Family Resort Hotels feature beautiful gardens with bungalow style single story buildings.  Usually on the beach with huge pools a choice of a couple of restaurants and within most families budgets.

Starting at $90 a night.  Kids can play safely and there are plenty of other families to socialise with.  Look out for ones with kids clubs.

The Padma Hotel, JayaKarta, Kumala Pantai in Legian and the Bali Dynasty in Kuta are some of the first of these Hotels.  Nusa Dua has many of the newer resort hotels.

Money no object?

Luxury Resort Hotels.

Many of major brands can be found in Bali, the newest one being the Ritz Carlton.

Some of the settings of these Hotels are breath taking with immaculately kept gardens, magically lit at night, featuring award winning architectural and interior design.

That’s before you even get to experience the hospitality the spas and the restaurants.  Look up The W, The Mulia, The Ayana, The Viceroy, St Regis, Bulgari, Four Seasons.  The sky is the limit when it comes to the rates as many have Villas within the hotel grounds for guests wanting more than a hotel suite.

Something for everybody

A private villa affords you the comforts and service of a 5 star hotel, with the value for money, privacy and space of a holiday home.

Villas tend to have a minimum stay of 3 nights and are ideal if you’re travelling with your extended family or a group of friends…

…or even if you’re on a romantic getaway and want to enjoy the privacy of your own space with your special someone.

Once again, do some research. How old is the property? Are the photos accurate, when were they last updated?  Does the owner or manager visit the property regularly?

How well the owner or manager communicate with you, will give you a good idea as to the level of service you can expect.  Make sure you check exactly which services are included in your tariff and what are the additional costs you mightn’t realise you need to pay for?

Services you may might want to think about include; housekeeping, airport transfers, breakfast, dedicated manager, laundry, security, chef, babysitter, driver?

How far is the walk to the beach, special attraction, restaurants, shops?

The standard and price range are enormous, so reviews are vital.
